An authentic Italian recipe from our kitchen to yours. Buon Appetito!

Ingredients

- 8 ounces of your favorite, good quality chocolate

Directions

1.  Chop the chocolate into pieces.

2.  Place 2/3 of the chopped chocolate into a bowl and place the bowl in the microwave on high for 30 seconds.

3.  Remove the bowl from the microwave and stir well. Place the bowl back into the microwave and heat for another 10 seconds. Remove the bowl and stir again. Continue this process until all of the chocolate has melted.

4.  After all of the chocolate in the bowl has melted, add the other 1/3 of the chopped chocolate to the bowl and stir thoroughly. Continue stirring until all of the chocolate has melted.

5.  Using a 1/2 pound, food-grade plastic or silicone egg mold, pour the chocolate into each mold and rotate the mold so that the chocolate covers the entire shape of the mold evenly.

6.  To remove any excess chocolate, place a sheet of parchment or wax paper on your workspace and over the parchment position a cooling rack. Turn the mold over onto the cooling rack briefly to drain the excess chocolate. Return the mold to its original position and place it in the refrigerator to cool for 30 minutes to 1 hour.

7.  After the chocolate has cooled and begun to set, using a knife, carefully clear any excess chocolate around the rims of each mold and clean the edges of the rims of each piece of the egg so that they are relatively flush with the edge of the mold.

8.  Place the mold back into the refrigerator overnight to set the chocolate well.

9.  The next day, carefully remove each half of the egg from the mold and set them aside. Traditionally, there is a surprise such as a small toy, money or another piece of candy to be found inside these eggs. Prepare the surprise and have it ready.

10.  To join the 2 halves together, heat a nonstick pan over low heat for 2 - 3 minutes. Remove the pan from the heat and briefly place one of the halves of the egg in the pan to melt the edges of the chocolate. Quickly place the surprise into one half of the egg and join the 2 halves together before the soften edges harden again. Hold the egg together for 1 - 2 minutes to ensure the halves are joined well.

11.  Decorate the egg with your favorite icing and decorations and then wrap it in festive packaging for a great traditional gift.
