An authentic Italian recipe from our kitchen to yours. Buon Appetito!

Ingredients

- 5 egg yolks

- 1/4 cup sugar

- 1/4 cup of your favorite liquor or sweet wine (marsala, port, rum, muscat, vin santo, cointreau, etc.)

- Cookies, berries and/or grated chocolate for serving (optional)

Directions

1.  Set up a double boiler system over medium heat. Ensure the water in the pot below does not reach a boil. If it does, lower the heat to low.

2.  As the water in the lower pot heats, separate the egg yolks, reserving the egg whites for another recipe.

 

 

 

3.  Once the water in the pot is sufficiently heated and the egg yolks have been separated, add the yolks, sugar and the liquor into the top pan of the double boiler.

4.  Using a hand mixer, whisk the ingredients at medium speed until the mixture develops into a thick pudding-like consistency, approximately 7 - 10 minutes. Be sure not to overcook the cream or else it will turn into scrambled eggs.

5.  Once the desired consistency has been reached, remove the mixing bowl from the heat and allow it to cool for 2 - 3 minutes and then serve warm with cookies, mixed berries or topped with grated chocolate.
